SEC Week 4 Predictions

Well, I finally dropped a few last week. The odds finally caught up to me. In retrospect, I should've picked MSU as my upset special. Thought Vandy had more than that. So that puts me at 24-3 (89%). And, we're already to week 4 of this young SEC season. Let's hope it's as entertaining as last week.

Auburn 44 vs Ball State 9 (+33)
AU should have all the starters pulled by the 4th quarter. Heard mentioned the other day that Ball St. may be the 1st team in history to go 12-0, then 0-12 in back-to-back seasons!

Bama 41 vs Arkansas 28 (+17.5)
I can envision Bama getting off to a quick start and looking to blow out the 'Hogs. Then after Arkansas scores a couple times, almost secretly, they're within 10 points. The crowd gets a little restless. Then, Bama punches another 1 in and grabs a turnover to seal it. I don't know really. Maybe not. But it'd be funny if it happened like I said.

LSU 27 @ Miss. St. 17 (+13)
I'd be real tempted to take the points in this 1. I'm not entirely sold on LSU. And MSU surprised me last week handling what I thought was a decent Vandy team on the road. This might actually be a good game.

Florida 45 @ Kentucky 20 (+22)
Tennessee kept UF under control last week. However, I'm pretty certain UT's D is much better than the Cats'. Florida will be looking to get back to true form. And UK looked very unimpressive last week. If they're not careful, the 'Cats could get embarrassed here.

Georgia 35 vs Arizona St. 21 (+12)
Georgia looked pretty darn good last week. They'll host a pesky ASU team. But, the Dawgs should be able to outscore these cross-country Devils.

Tennessee 38 vs Ohio 10 (+23)
Nothing to see here. Carry on...

***UPSET SPECIAL***
S. Carolina 37 vs Ole Miss 30 (-4.5)
We'll now find out how good Ole Miss really is. They're facing an unranked opponent as the #4 team in the nation and are only 4.5 point favorites. That tells you how much America disagrees with the popularity polls. I fully expect Spurrier to find some weaknesses in the Reb's defense. Not sure if they'll be able to keep up with Ole Miss on the scoreboard. But with Spurrier, there's always a good chance.

SEC Week 3 Predictions

Well, I got 'em all right last week too. Can't recall that ever happening before. Oh, and Auburn's 2-0! Can't recall...j/k. But, it's been 3 years! Anyway, hope the trend continues this week, at least for the Tigers. War Eagle!

Bama 41 vs N. Texas 10 (+38)
The Mean Green will not intimidate the Tide whatsoever. Will we get to see another Saban tantrum? I hope so. *giggles*

Florida 99 vs Tennessee 3 (+30)
Yeah, exaggerated a little on the score. But, I see this being a blowout of epic proportions. When you couple the degrading comments Kiffin made in the preseason about UF's recruiting tactics with Urban's gargantuan ego, and you've got revenge of the highest order about to unfold. If you think Spurrier used to run up the score, wait 'til you see this!

Arkansas 31 vs Georgia 27 (+1.5)
Not sure what happened to UGA's D last week. However, Spurrier has a habit of finding your weakness, over and over. I have a lot of respect for Petrino, the coach. I think he's Spurrier reincarnated. ;) And with this UGA team, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a wider margin of victory for the Hawgs.

Kentucky 33 vs Louisville 14 (+14)
Wow, look how far the Cards have fallen since Petrino left! An embarrassing loss to their in-state rival may put the cap on UL's coaching tenure. Wonder if Tuberville would be interested in this job? Talk about irony!

Vanderbilt 28 vs Miss. St. 20 (+9)
Vandy should continue to impress with these limping Dawgs coming to town this week. The 'Dores actually have a decent offense. MSU's is not there yet.

Ole Miss 55 vs SE Louisiana 7 (N/A)
Ok. So, I picked this game last week. Still the same story: look for the Rebs to work out a few kinks in their offense this week. Nothing to see here. Carry on.

LSU 31 vs UL Lafayette 10 (+27)
Lafayette may have the 2nd best team in Louisiana this year. Unfortunately, as usual, there is a lot of separation between 1 & 2. This could be uncomfortably close for a half. Then, depth should put LSU over the top in the 2nd half.

S. Carolina 27 vs Fla Atlantic 9 (+21)
Steve's 'Cocks may be a bit hungover from last week's loss to UGA. Shouldn't matter much though.

***UPSET SPECIAL***
W. Virginia 34 @ Auburn 33 (-7.5)
Yeah, this was not easy. I certainly wouldn't place a bet on this pick. But of all the games this week, this has the most potential for an upset. I sure hope I'm wrong. If Auburn can't slow down the WVU running game or if Todd has a bad game, I could see this going sour for the Tigers. A lot on the line here for AU. Lots of recruits in town and a nationally televised night game at home. I sure hope this new coaching staff turns the corner in a big way Sat. night. I've just got a feeling, maybe conditioned so the past couple years, that losing a primetime out-of-conference game is likely. I think that which team is able to stop the other's running game, will win. I hope the AU 'D' rises to the occasion! WDE!

SEC Week 2 Predictions

Well, I got off to a good start last week going 12-0 in my picks. I certainly don't expect that to hold up though. Several teams start SEC play this week and we all know how unpredictable the SEC can be. But, here goes...

Auburn 24 vs MSU 14 (+14)
Well the offense certainly looked promising last week. However, I don't expect MSU to drop off so much in the 2nd half. Wouldn't be surprised if it's still tight in the 4th.

Bama 41 vs Florida Int'l 9(+34)
Don't be surprised if Bama doesn't cover the spread here. Not that FIU is any good at all. But, Saban likes to use these games to "teach" his team a lesson. Might as well not even watch this one. It'll resemble Aday.

Georgia 16 vs S. Carolina 13 (+7)
Both teams stumbled out of the gates last week. But, I think it's Georgia who has the most talent of the 2. Maybe not at QB, but UGA should have enough to outlast Spurrier's team at home. Look for UGA to establish the running game and win ugly.

Florida 49 vs Troy 10 (+37)
Man, poor Troy. Maybe we're all wrong. But, this has every reason to be a blowout.

LSU 38 vs Vandy 20 (+14)
Vandy put up some points last week. Maybe they'll do it some more this week. However, I don't see them stopping the LSU running game. Might be a little too tight for a half. But, LSU should be too physical for the 'Dores to hold up.

Ole Miss 55 vs SE Louisiana 7 (N/A)
Look for the Rebs to work out a few kinks in their offense this week. Nothing to see here. Carry on.

***UPSET SPECIAL***
UCLA 24 @ Tennessee 23 (-10)
This might be a lot tighter than many people think. Neuheisel is a decent coach. Jury's still out on the Kiffen gang. Maybe UT is a lot better than I think. They did manhandle a much inferior WKU team last week. But with UF up next on their schedule, I would not be surprised if UCLA caught UT looking ahead.

SEC Week 1 Predictions

Auburn 24 vs La Tech 17 (+13)
If we can't score more than 20 points against La Tech, look for this to be another long season. La Tech is not a bad team. In fact, opening with them is scary. However, a good SEC team should have no problem with these 'Dogs.

Bama 20 vs Va Tech 10 (+6.5)
Yeah, Bama will be ready. Maybe Va Tech will surprise me. But, I'm actually being a bit generous giving them 10 points. Bama's D should not disappoint. Their offense is what will be interesting.

Oklahoma St. 23 vs Georgia 21 (+5)
Tough way to open the season for the pups. UGA lost a ton from last year's offense. On the road, playing against a good team on opening day is a tall order to start the season. I'm thinking UGA will keep it close, but the 'Boys will hold them off.

LSU 27 @ Washington 10 (+17)
Washington, even at home, does not have a lot coming back from a terrible team a year ago. Look for LSU to pull out the stops in this cross-country battle to impress the voters.

Tennessee 31 vs W. Kentucky 6 (+29.5)
This is the early SEC TV game. Yuck!

Florida 55 vs Charleston Southern 7 (N/A)
Okie-Dokie!

Arkansas 42 vs Missouri St. 9 (N/A)
Yawn!

Kentucky 28 vs Miami (OH) 14 (+15)
I have no idea on this one really. Just gotta believe a decent SEC team should win comfortably.

Ole Miss 30 @ Memphis 13 (+16.5)
The 'Rebs will flex their muscle in this one. But don't be fooled. Memphis is not what I consider a powerhouse.

Vandy 27 vs W. Carolina 10 (N/A)
Oh please Vandy. Don't blow this one!

Miss. St. 30 vs Jackson St. 9 (N/A)
Good way for MSU to open their season with a new coaching staff and offensive philosophy.

2009 SEC Standings Predictions

Ok, I know I'm running up to the wire. And, this will probably be a rather lame attemp at kicking off the season with my blog. But, I wanted to at least put down what I believe will be the final standings for the SEC at season's end. So, here goes...

SEC East
Florida 7-1 (lone loss to S. Carolina)
UGA 6-2 (pretty favorable schedule)
UT 4-4 (another favorable schedule)
S. Carolinga 3-5 (very tough schedule)
Kentucky 2-6 (good team, but SEC is just too tough)
Vandy 1-7 (back to norm)

SEC West
Bama 6-2 (Don't see them losing to Ole Miss or LSU)
Ole Miss 5-3 (good team, but not good enough)
LSU 4-4 (Not too high on the Tigers)
AU 4-4 (Improved but still a ways to go)
Ark 3-5 (May beat AU, but schedule is just brutal)
MSU 2-6 (Not believing the Mullen hype yet)

***UPSET SPECIAL***
S. Carolina 21 @ NC State 17 (-5)
Could be wrong here. But, I would hate to play Spurrier to kick off my season. Just ask Mark Richt. He gets them for game #2 every year.
