Slowly recovering from AU's Jekyll-and-Hyde performance at WVU. All 3 phases (offense, defense, and special teams) have been inconsistent for the Tigers this year. Thus, losses have become plentiful. Not only is my team performing poorly, my picks have become abysmal. Last week I continued the trend to go 4-3 bringing my total record for the year heading into November down to 41-19 (68%). I'm hoping both my picks and AU get things going this week.
Florida 35 (-6) Georgia 24
The 'Dogs looked strong last week. But, they'll have all they can handle with the Gators. UF lost last year when Richt had his team dance YMCA in the endzone. Urban usually has his team ready for the big game. Wouldn't doubt if the Gators came out to a quick start.
Ole Miss 27 (-6) Auburn 17
Not much confidence in the defense at this point. And I'm afraid both the Rebels and their fans will be ready when the Tigers come to town. I don't look for AU to get things on track this week.
Alabama 40 (-23) Arkansas St. 10
I don't look for the Red Wolves to provide much opposition for the Tide. Bama will have it in cruise control headed into the showdown in Baton Rouge next week.
Tulsa 34 (-7) at Arkansas 30
Should be a good game in Fayetteville. The undefeated Hurricanes should be up to the task knowing the pollsters will be watching.
S. Carolina 24 (-6) Tennessee 13
Fulmer's farewell tour continues in Columbia. UT has consistently out-recruited Carolina over the years. And despite this, the 'Cocks win with relative ease. Superior coaching is the difference.
LSU 33 (-26) Tulane 9
Bad timing for the Green Wave. Not that good timing would help much. But, these will be an angry bunch of kitties after getting throttled at home last week. Once the game is in hand, expect LSU to let off the gas with the Turds coming to town next week.
***UPSET SPECIAL***
Kentucky 13 (+3) at Miss. St. 10
Both teams have been stuck in a rut lately. Even though they're playing at home, there's not much fight left in these 'Dogs. If UK scores 1st, MSU will need some breaks. A win all but sows up a bowl berth for the 'Cats. Good coaching usually gets it done. Hence, the edge to UK.

SEC Week 9 Predictions
Well, I decided to take last week off. Got a little burned out, kinda like the AU offense. Here's hoping they bring something to the table this week. Week 7 I went 2-3 bringing my overall record to 37-16 (70%). Not a good week to say the least. Hopefully, I can redeem myself this week...
Bama 27 (-6) at Tennessee 10
I would anticipate Bama to get off to a quick start, as usual. Then in the 2nd half, UT will be playing to make it respectable, as usual. This should fire up Phil's moving vans. He'll remain HC through the remainder of the season out of just sheer courtesy.
LSU 24 (-2) Georgia 16
Lots of off-the-field issues for Georgia again this week. From arrests to injuries, you name it, UGA has seen it all. A season that once looked very promising is starting to implode. Don't be surprised if LSU plays like gang-busters and does a number on the reeling 'Dogs.
Ole Miss 23 (-5) at Arkansas 21
Would not be surprised to see the 'Backs pull this 1 out. I just think the Rebels are the better team right now.
Vandy 27 (-10) Duke 17
I was very close to picking the Devils in this 1. Vandy is at the 5-win mark and have somehow managed to collapse every year when they're trying to become bowl-eligible. A loss by the 'Dores and it could seriously have a snowball effect for the remainder of their season.
Florida 38 (-24) Kentucky 13
I heard the other day on the radio that UK is like 0-12 in their last 12 trips to Gainseville. No reason to see that change this weekend.
Miss. St. 20 (-11) MTSU 9
The Blue Raiders could keep things interesting for at least 3 quarters in Starkville. I just believe the defense will be the difference, on both sides. MTSU will have problems putting it in the endzone and even stopping MSU's anemic offense.
***UPSET SPECIAL***
Auburn 21 (+3) at W. Virginia 19
I've seen AU face more adverse conditions than this 1, namely '02 Bama. So, I shouldn't be surprised to see a more confident team this Thursday night. Fortunately, the Tigers have had some extra time to prepare to recover from some key injuries and install a more assertive offense. The key once again for Auburn will be playing disciplined on both sides of the ball. The defense will have plenty to handle trying to stop the WVU offense. But as long as they don't give up the big play, I expect it to get difficult for the Mountaineers to score in the redzone. Also, this defense has something to prove after their lackluster performance against Arkansas. And if AU were to lose, it would be the 1st time since 2001 they've lost 3 games in a row under Tuberville.
Bama 27 (-6) at Tennessee 10

SEC Week 7 Predictions
Man have things changed in a week. In 1 week, we lose to Vandy and fire our OC. Auburn was 104th in the nation in total offense. Pathetic. Don't think it could get any worse. Anyway, I was 4-1 last week bringing my total to 35-13 (73%). I did get my 1st upset special right though.
Auburn 17 (-18) Arkansas 13
These 2 teams are in the lower half of the SEC right now. I do believe AU has the talent to be much better. And, Arkansas has the advantage in coaching. It'll be very interesting to see what offense AU runs without Franklin.
Georgia 23 (-13) Tennessee 16
I think this game will be much closer than most people think. This is a classic Fulmer-saving job. And UGA has to get their groove back since getting embarrassed by Bama.
Florida 27 (-5) LSU 20
Hard to bet against Les "the hat" Miles in big games. But, I doubt UF will lose 2 home games in the same year. I expect Meyer to come out guns firing in this one.
Vandy 14 (-2) at Miss. St. 10
The 'Dores don't matchup well against MSU. This could be a big win for the Dogs. I keep waiting for Vandy to start their annual downward spiral. This would certainly get it going. Right now though, I'm going with the better team, that is if Vandy plays their backup QB again.
***UPSET SPECIAL***
Kentucky 17 (+2) S. Carolina 14
UK's coming off a strong showing against the Tide last week. They know this is a game they need to keep their bowl hopes alive. Playing at home, I think the their defense will keep it close enough to pull it out.

SEC Week 6 Predictions
Been a busy week. Got to make these quick. Had a rough week with my picks last week (4-3). My total now is 31-12 (72%).
Auburn 20 (-4) at Vanderbilt 10
AU's looking at adding more I-formation to the spread this week. Good to see the coaches trying to adapt to the personnel we've got. It's a big week for the 'Dores. They should keep things very interesting. Unless Auburn gives up some turnovers, they should win the ballgame.
Alabama 27 (-16) Kentucky 9
Don't expect a letdown from Bama this week after the huge upset in Athens.
Tennessee 21 (-16) N. Illinois 13
UT's struggles continue this weekend at home.
Florida 37 (-24) at Arkansas 14
UF will be out for blood after dropping their game at home to Ole Miss last Sat.
***UPSET SPECIAL***
S. Carolina 24 (+2) at Ole Miss 23
This should be a very good game. Not going to be on TV. We're missing out on some very good Ole Miss games this year. First Vandy, now this. The Rebels are fresh off a big win at Florida and are ripe for the upset. Spurrier is not scared of anyone and will have his team prepared to win.

SEC Week 5 Predictions
Well, last week the LSU game was disappointing obviously. However, I think AU's offense took a step forward. The defense is another story. I went 5-2 last week bringing my total record to 27-9 (75%). I don't think I've gotten an upset special right yet. Maybe I'll continue that trend this week.
May actually be a little tight in the 1st half. Could see a bit of letdown by the Gators in this 1. I know the Rebels would like to steal 1 in Gainseville.
Texas 40 (-27) Arkansas 10
Oh boy, this 1 could get ugly. The 'Backs are coming off a terrible performance at home last week. This could be the towel game for them. They lose big and it will be a long season in Fayetteville.
LSU 31 (-24) Miss. State 6
LSU could suffer a litte hangover as well this week. But they won't have to worry with the pups coming to town. It looks like MSU is headed towards a battle with Arkansas for the worst team in the West this year.
S. Carolina 24 (-25) UAB 7
I think I'd have to take those points. UAB's not that good. But, the 'Cocks are not lighting it up either.
Kentucky 30 (-21) W. Kentucky 10
Unbelievably, there's a good chance that UK will be 4-0 after this game. Only thing is they really haven't played much competition. They'll need this win if they want a shot at a bowl game this year.
***UPSET SPECIAL***
Tennessee 20 (+7) Auburn 17
For as long as I've been an Auburn fan, I know what a trap game looks like for Auburn. We have every reason in the world to come out with a chip on our shoulder after losing a tough game to LSU last week. And, UT has every reason to fold up the tent. However historically, when Auburn has left any room for optimism, the door usually gets slammed shut fairly quickly. Plus, under Phil Fulmer, UT has had a tendency to be extremely resilient when it looks like they're headed for a long season. This will be the annual "Save Fulmer's Job" game for UT. And unfortunately, I can see Auburn being very hospitable guests.
Georgia 23 (-7) Alabama 13
After USC's debacle last night, UGAy has more to play for Saturday. I think that will be the shot in the arm they need to get past a confident Bama team.

SEC Week 4 Predictions
Went 7-1 last week. My upset special wasn't so special. So, that puts me at 22-7 (75.9%). This week gets tougher with some team's 1st big test. Should be interesting.
Bama 30 (-9) at Arkansas 13
I think this is bad matchup for the 'Hogs. I don't think they can stop Bama. And, I don't think they'll move the ball much on the Tide either.
Florida 27 (-8) at Tennessee 20
This game is a wildcard. Sometime UT can play over their heads a bit. And other times, they look plain awful. I'll take the Gaytors. But, I don't think they'll cover the spread.
UGAy 40 (-7) at Arizona St. 20
This will show the desparity between SEC defenses and the rest of the country. They drop the Dogs in the polls because they barely beat S. Carolina. Uh, the 'Cocks D is solid. Didn't know this was a beauty contest.
Ole Miss 23 (-7) Vandy 21
I keep picking against Vandy and they keep winning. I hope I'm wrong again.
Ga Tech 20 (-8) Miss. St. 9
Sad when Ga Tech, running out of the wishbone, has a better offense than you.
S. Carolina 37 (n/a) Wofford 7
Time for Carolina to heal some wounds.
***UPSET SPECIAL***
Auburn 17 (+3) LSU 9
Maybe I should "respect" LSU more than this. But, I just can't help but think about all the talent that LSU lost from last year. Plus, they have some very, very inexperienced QBs coming into a hostile environment. I know AU has not looked crisp on offense this year. But, if we can't beat LSU this year, Auburn along with the rest of the West is in for some long years ahead. Of course, as has been our MO apparently, turnovers and penalties are an equalizer. But I'm thinking Auburn has gotten those out of their system the last 2 games. Conversely, if LSU turns it over, I think this game has a chance to get out of hand in favor of AU. Great game and great atmosphere. We're all set to go. This is what college football's all about, 2 Top 10 schools going head-to-head at night in the SEC. WDE!

SEC Week 3 Predictions
Went 7-2 last week. Vandy tripped me up and I almost got my upset special right with Ole Miss. So, that puts me 15-6 (71.4%). This week's games are much more predictable. However, I always go with an upset special. So, I hope that's the only 1 I get wrong.
Auburn 27 (-10) at Miss. St. 9
MSU's defense will keep them in the game for at least a half. However, I saw a glimpse last week of how good AU's offense can be. Couple that with our recent success in Starkville, and it could be a blowout. I don't see MSU scoring much unless AU turns the ball over. And I'm trying not to get too excited about Chris Todd either. He really, really impressed me last week.
Alabama 38 (-28) W. Kentucky 13
Bama will have another week to work out the kinks. They'll have a few more folks back to fine tune some things for the Arkansas trip next week.
Georgia 23 (-7) at S. Carolina 13
For some reason, I think Spurrier will have his team ready for this one. Not sure if it'll be that close in the 4th quarter. But, I've got a feeling Stafford will be in for UGA's last play of the game.
Kentucky 33 (-17) M. Tennesee St. 10
Don't think the Blue Raiders will bring much to the table in Lexington.
Tennessee 42 (-30) UAB 6
Statement game for the Vols after losing that heartbreaker to UCLA in Week 1.
LSU 45 (-42) N. Texas 10
Warmup for the AU game next week. Wish I could watch this one.
Ole Miss 49 (n/a) Samford 7
Glad I didn't pay to go to this game.
***UPSET SPECIAL***
Rice 24 (+8) at Vandy 23
Both teams are 2-0 coming into this game. When was the last time you saw Vandy start out 3-0? This is the classic game that keeps Vandy from reaching bowl eligibility. If the 'Dores win, watch out Papa John's Bowl!

SEC Week 2 Predictions
Being a short week, I've fell behind with my picks this week. And, I'll have to make these pretty quick. Went 8-4 (67%) last week. Not great, but pretty decent for the 1st week. I hope to improve as the season progresses. I believe I finished around 80% last year.
S. Carolina 17 (+10) Vandy 13
The 'Dores looked explosive last week, which surprised me. However, they'll go up against a pretty solid SEC defense tonight. USC will be starting Smelley, which should help the offense get off to a quicker start.
Auburn 24 (-17) USM 10
This could be a real trap if Auburn tries to sleep walk this week. I'll have to say though that AU matches up well against the Eagles. Our strength, defense, should win over their strength, offense. But if AU turns the ball over or doesn't mount some scoring drives early, it will get very interesting.
Bama 35 (-30) Tulane 6
Coming off the big win in the Dome last week would normally cause worry for a letdown the following week. However, it's Tulane coming to town. Should get to see quite a bit of McElroy in the 2nd half.
UGA 42 (-24) C. Michigan 14
Don't see the Chippewas stopping the Georgia O.
Florida 33 (-22) Miami 10
May still be a game at halftime. But unless UF turns the ball over, I don't see Miami hanging with them.
Arkansas 23 (-24) La Monroe 13
This could be an upset. But, I don't think the 'Backs will overlook them. And, they should improve after last week's near embarrassment.
Kentucky 40 (n/a) Norfolk St. 7
BORING!
Miss. St. 28 (n/a) SE Louisiana 6
Don't think the 'Dogs will show much at all this week with AU coming to town next Sat.
***UPSET SPECIAL***
Ole Miss 21 (+8) Wake Forest 20
I'd be mildly surprised if this happens. But, I'm going to pick it anyway. Wake may be the best team in the ACC and Ole Miss is a middle-of-the-pack SEC team. Should tell you how big the gap is between the 2 conferences. Should be a good game to watch. I hope the Rebels pull it out. On the road against a well-coached team like Wake, Ole Miss will need a little help.
S. Carolina 17 (+10) Vandy 13

'Twas the night before Christmas...
2008 SEC Week 1 Predictions
Never thought this day would come. With a new, unorthodox Auburn offense hitting the field tomorrow, it has really fueled my anticipation. And with Bama opening with our last opponent, Clemson, I'm going to have a hard time sleeping tonight. Every year at this time, it makes me feel like a kid again. Can't wait to open my presents tomorrow!
Auburn 42 LaMonroe 13
An interesting matchup to say the least for both Auburn and Bama fans. I'm sure the Tide faithful would like nothing more than to return the favor from the abuse they've suffered since their loss to the Warhawks last year. But, I don't think it's going to happen. Really not sure how it happened in Bryant-Denny last year. Anyway, expect to see the spread take off tomorrow night. Even with a new offense, Auburn's defense will be under heavy scrutiny as well. The Tigers liked to start off slow the 1st few games last year. We often started off in a hole which led to a couple early losses. LaMo will be juiced, no doubt. But I just don't see it happening.
Tennessee 23 UCLA 14
The Bruins are down to their 3rd string QB already. Could be a rough start for Neuheisel's return to college football. UT starts a new QB as well, but is much more battle-tested. Expect Coach Fulmer to indulge in the post-game brownies that night.
Louisville 31 Kentucky 24
UK opens on the road in their annual meeting with the Cards of Derbytown. Unfortunately, it's bad timing 'cause I think the Wildcats will become a better team as the season progresses. With the departure of All-SEC QB Woodson, the 'Cats have some rebuilding to do. And Louisville has something to prove after last year's miserable performance under 1st-year coach Kragthorpe.
Ole Miss 27 Memphis 13
The post-Ogre era begins in Oxford Saturday. The Rebels have certainly upgraded their coaching staff and seem to have a few key talented players on the field. Don't think Memphis will keep as close as years past. Guess I should keep my on the 1 who slipped from AU's grasp, Enrique Davis. He should fit in well in the Nutt offense.
Florida 45 Hawaii 10
The Warriors lose both their coach and their NFL-caliber QB from last year. It won't be pretty that 1st game in the Swamp. Expect this 1 to get out of hand quickly.
LSU 34 App State 13
Don't think the Mountaineers will sneak up on anyone this year after the upset at Michigan last year. However, I think LSU will try to work on their passing game with a very inexperienced QB. That should make the score deceptively close for the 1st half.
Miss St. 21 LaTech 20
Should be a tight 1 on the road to open for Croom's Dogs. Hard to get a feel for a game like this to start the season. Could go either way. Should be interesting to see if MSU's offense has made any improvement.
UGAy 41 Ga Southern 9
You could field a football team with all the players on suspension for this game. I think it's something like 12 or 13 players total. Anyway, the main 2 will be playing, Stafford and Moreno. And, that will be enough. Look for redshirt freshman RB, Caleb King, for UGA to get on the field early.
Arkansas 40 W. Illinois 10
The Leathernecks are coming! The Leathernecks are coming! Who cares.
Thursday
S. Carolina 27 NC State 17
Don't know a whole lot about either team. I just figure the 'Cocks can pull it out on their home turf with Spurrier.
Miami-OH 24 Vandy 20
Road game for the 'Dores to kickoff the season. I think we know how these usually turn out.
***UPSET SPECIAL***
UAt 24 Clemson 21
As much as I hate to say this, I have to go with the Pachyderm Pygmies for my upset special. While I think Clemson should win this game, Bama has a lot riding on this game. It would be monumental for them to open their season in the Georgia Dome in the national spotlight and steal 1 from a top 10 opponent. Considering they finished 6-6 the last 2 regular seasons, a win Sat. night would go a long ways in turning things around. The key to success for both teams will be the running game. Both QBs need the ground game to be successful to open up the passing game. I'll say whoever rushes for more yards, wins.

2008 SEC Season Predictions
Little late on this, but I’ve put together what I think will be the likely finish in the SEC for 2008.
SEC West
Auburn (10-2) (Losses: UT, @WVU)
The schedule looks favorable for Auburn this year. And it’s more than likely the new offense will be more productive than the last 2 years. While I think we’ll be in Atlanta, I don’t think it’ll be without a couple losses. Tennessee is the week after LSU. Although they play Florida that same weekend, I could see us dropping this one we shouldn’t. W. Virginia is loaded and we make a Thursday night visit to their house this year. Could be an unwelcomed visit.
Bama (8-4) (Losses: Clemson, @Ark, @UGAy, AU)
I pick Bama to win 1 game they’ll likely be the underdog, @ LSU. And that would setup quite a showdown in Tuscaloosa this year for the Iron Bowl, the right to go to Atlanta. I can very well see this happening, much to my dismay. Bama was on the unfortunate end of some key losses last year. And I see that fortune changing this year. The only reason I don’t pick them to beat AU at home is because of the streak. Be ready to hear Bama’s back win or lose in the Iron Bowl, if they come this close to Atlanta.
LSU (8-4) (Losses: @AU, @UF, @S. Car., Bama)
I know LSU has a lot of talent, which may win them a game they shouldn’t (UGAy). But starting a QB who has never taken a snap in the SEC is quite a disadvantage. I’m a very big proponent that a returning QB with experience usually translates into more wins. Add to this the fact that LSU also lost key senior starters from their roster, I believe will lead to a rebuilding year for Les “Top Hat” Miles.
Ole Miss (7-5) (Losses: @WF, @UF, @Bama, Auburn, @LSU)
Count me as 1 of those that believe the Nutty Professor will make a dramatic improvement in Oxford. While I think they might stumble at Wake out of the gates, I think ol’ Nutt will have a little something for his return home at Arkansas in late October.
MSU (6-6) (Losses: AU, @GT, @LSU, @UT, @Bama, @Ole Miss)
Tough road schedule for Croom’s Dogs. I think their season will hinge on their home game with Arkansas. While they’re a much dangerous team nowadays, I believe they’ll return to looking up from the bottom in the SEC this year.
Arkansas (5-7) (Losses: @Texas, UF, @AU, Ole Miss, @S. Car., @MSU, LSU)
Tough year to play Texas. That could be the game that keeps the Hogs out of post-season play this year. Petrino has some crow to eat hosting Houston Nutt and travelling back to Auburn. Don’t expect this is what the Hog fans’ were hoping when they hired him.
SEC East
Florida (11-1) (Losses: UGAy)
The Gators schedule sets up real nice for them this year. They have a chance at running the table. @UT and the Georgia game are the only substantial threats for them in the SEC. And in my estimation, they could back door into Atlanta if Auburn does them a favor by beating the Dogs in November.
UGAy (10-2) (Losses: @LSU, @AU)
This could be a tough break for the Dogs 2 years in a row if they somehow sweep the East and manage to miss Atlanta again. It’s very probable, especially if UF comes out of Knoxville with a win. Boy, wouldn’t Auburn love to be in a position to cancel their reservations in Atlanta? Guess that would be a little payback for ’06.
UT (9-3) (Losses: UF, @UGAy, Bama)
The Vols have a favorable schedule this year, aside from having to play UGAy and UF again. Aside from that, I think they’ll win 1 against Bama or Auburn.
S. Carolina (7-5) (Losses: UGAy, @Ole Miss, UT, @UF, @Clemson)
Good chance with their schedule that the ‘Cocks could be 6-2 headed into their home game with Tennessee. Believe it or not, but that could be a pivotal game for the 3rd spot in the East. Spurrier got his team off to a bang last year, even cracking the top 5 in the nation. I can see a similar start to this year. But they’ll be lucky to win more than 1 game out of their final 4.
Kentucky (5-7) (Losses: @Bama, S. Car., Ark., @UF, @MSU, UGAy, UT)
The Wildcats could start out 4-0 with a win in their opener at Louisville. But after that, it gets brutal. Losing Woodson at QB will be a tough obstacle to overcome. But I do think they have an impressive coaching staff. And, it looks like they’re holding their own in recruiting. I wouldn’t doubt it if the Wildcats make another run in the East within the next 4 years, just not this year.
Vandy (2-10) (Wins: Duke, Rice)
I think the ‘Dores pull another “0-for” in the SEC this year. I just can’t see them winning 1 game. Maybe hosting Ole Miss or S. Carolina in September, while hopes are yet dashed? I don’t know, but I doubt it. You look at the coaches in the SEC and Vandy doesn’t even compete. I hate it for them, but Bobby Johnson is out of his league.
SEC 2008 Kickoff!!!
Man, has this been a long summer! Without football or basketball, the last couple of months have been brutally boring. Well, SEC media days began this week which signals the beginning of another football season. Practice will start the 1st weekend in August for AU. Fan day will be that Saturday, 8/2. Let me know how it goes 'cause I'll be at the beach.
Anyway, at least I'll get to catch a few practices when I get back. And, it looks like I won't see 1 of our young LBs there, Bo Harris. Word is that he's academically ineligible and will transfer. Really no excuse for that. At least we're pretty deep at that position. Next year may be a cause for concern however. Some of the younger guys (Bynes, Stephens, Herring, Barnes) will have to step up. I sure hope Blackmon comes back for his Sr. year!
Getting back to Media Days, the media voted their 1st & 2nd All-SEC teams. Auburn had the most representatives at 9. AU was also picked to win the West, UF the East. UF was picked to win in Atlanta. And if you'll notice, someone picked Ole Miss to win the SEC! Maybe they know something I don't. I'm sure they'll be much improved. But, I wouldn't label them as a contender just yet. Here's the rundown of the voting:

2007 Final Polls
Auburn finished with the OT win over Clemson. That puts 5 SEC teams in the top 15. Obviously, LSU won the MNC, which exemplified the flawed BCS system. It seems everyone but the university presidents understand that a playoff is needed.
Auburn is going through a transition phase now with 2 new coordinators for '08. The latest was Coach Muschamp's departure to Texas. No one knows all the details, but those involved. Even if there were some contractual issues, I'm sure if Muschamp would've been more patient, things could've been worked out. Now, Tuberville is interviewing candidates for his replacement. We should know something by the end of this week. My guess would be either Tressey (Cincinnati) or Bennett (SMU). Both have good track records.
Once spring practice begins, I'll try to be more active with my blog. Until then, about the only news will be in regards to recruiting. Hopefully, we can sign to bluechips down the stretch.
WDE!
